• As computing becomes more ubiquitous, have you ever wondered about technologies that will drive the next decade?

While it is difficult to arrive at a specific answer at this point, much of it will unravel as the society we live in increasingly adapts new technologies on various fronts. Let’s look at some of the most challenging technologies that hold promise for the next decade.

    Internet of Things

We live in an era of accelerated technological innovations where things connected to the internet have outnumbered the human population. People are increasingly using the web as a tool for social interactions, to instantly share knowledge and experiences. Many people in developed countries already have 24x7 internet connected devices such as smartphones, laptops, desktops, tablets, phablets, and other such devices and as such it is interesting to note that the next generation IoT will utilize sensor networks that store, analyze, and transmit data on a huge scale than ever before.

    3D Printing

3D printing technology has progressed leaps and bounds since its inception three decades ago and is now used for creating footwear, jewelry, food, clothing, cars buildings and body parts. A 3D printer makes use of the additive process and works by adding thin layer upon layer of material such as plastic or metal until it finally reproduces the required shape of a specific digital model. 3D printing is an emerging technology that will bring about a sea change in manufacturing and
    across other industries.

Technology will cease to be something we turn on and off, but will become an inextricable part our environment and ourselves. It is a future that is both utopian and dystopian (depending on your perspective), in that the human experience will change dramatically.

    The Cloud

In about ten years, one-third of data will be stored or transmitted through the cloud and cloud service providers will experience a significant jump in their revenues. Big and small businesses will set aside budgets to meet their cloud computing needs. We will see cloud computing boosting the intelligence of endpoint devices, the ones that are always internet connected.

    Digital Wallet

A digital wallet is an electronic device which allows customers to carry out economic transactions i.e. to make payments for making electronic commerce purchases. Newbies can compare it with ‘mobile payment’. Today, smartphones and computers are commonly used to make digital wallet payments for online purchases and in a few years digital wallet technology will establish itself and dominate the consumer payments industry as accelerated innovations in this segment gives rise to a highly competitive digital wallet marketplace.

The next decade will bring forth ubiquitous computing technologies that will become a part of our environment, transform lives and influence human experiences that will be more diverse and exciting than any of us can comprehend.
